In today's world, we all need to understand the diversities of the people that come into our lives. The differences that, at first, are so apparent become almost insignificant, once we learn more about others.
This is a touching story of how a rural home healthcare nurse, Michelle (aka: M2) was introduced to the concepts of Gender Identity Disorder, while caring for a terminally ill, blind, non-op transsexual patient, Mishelle (aka:M1).
During the four months that followed, Michelle's eyes and heart were opened to the real beauty of Mishelle: her strengths, her successes, her failures, her fears, and the many gifts that God had provided to Mishelle.
At one point in the beginning of the friendship, the patient saw the nurse struggling with the concept of transgenderism. In response, the patient opened the communications process with a simple statement: "if you have the courage to ask, I have the courage to answer."
From this point, the patient became the teacher/mentor/guide and taught the nurse many life lessons.
Through the short time they had together, an undeniable bond of unconditional love developed between the two women. Michelle's family became Mishelle's family!
Upon Mishelle's passing, Michelle vowed to tell the story and take whatever actions she was guided to take, to fulfill Mishelle's requests. This is the basis of the book, "The Color of Sunlight".
Michelle has become an ally, supporter, a speaker, and an advocate of the transgendered community. She became a Certified Life Coach, to assist community members in becoming the best they can.
